Portable AC rental at a glance
- Typical capacity: indoor rolling units roughly 1 to 5 tons; outdoor self-contained packaged units commonly about 5 to 25 tons or more, ducted into the space
- Power: indoor units range from 115V outlets to dedicated 208/230V circuits; packaged units typically need 208/230V or 460V three-phase, or a generator
- Hoses & water: air-cooled units duct hot exhaust out of the space; water-cooled portables need a supply and drain connection instead; packaged units run supply and return duct through a door, window, or panel
- Footprint: indoor units roll through standard doors; packaged units sit outside on a pad or trailer near the building, with room for duct runs and service access
Good fits: office suites during a rooftop unit replacement; classrooms, churches, and meeting rooms; job-site trailers and temporary offices; retail floors and restaurants waiting on a repair.
Those are typical ranges, not a sizing. The right unit and quantity depend on your heat load in tons, the power available, and how hot the space gets on the worst afternoon. Get a rough number with the tonnage calculator, and the rental company will confirm it.
Planning temporary cooling in Scottsdale
- Noise and placement: Resorts and residential areas often want generators and outdoor units out of sight and earshot. Plan placement and cable or hose runs with the venue before delivery.
- Events and tents: Large tented events may need a special event or tent permit from the City of Scottsdale and fire department review. Cooling and generator placement are part of that layout.
- Monsoon storms: Late-summer storms bring wind, dust, and humidity. Outdoor event cooling should be secured, and evaporative coolers lose effectiveness when it’s humid.
